Where can squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) appear on the body?
Squamous cell carcinoma can develop on many parts of the body, but it most commonly appears in areas that are frequently exposed to the sun. These include the face, ears, neck, scalp, chest, shoulders, and back.
SCC can also occur in less obvious places. In some cases, it may develop inside the mouth, on the genital area, or under a fingernail or toenail.
Because SCC can show up in both visible and hidden areas, regular full-body skin checks are important. Monitoring your skin for new or unusual changes helps ensure early detection and timely medical care.
